THESE MEN SAID THEY ARE NOT MIAO

Many Mong of the Southwest were grouped into Miaozu since the 1950s, but they still know they are Mong people. Others said they are not originally Miao.

OUR ELDERS CONTINUED TO AFFIRM THAT OUR ANCESTORS CAME FROM MONGAL (Mong Galah)

Many who were classified into Mongolian (Ancient Mong) still know that they are Mong. They still recognize the name MONG, and their vocabularies are still part of our Mong words.

THEY WERE ETHNIC MINORITY AT JIANGXI

These Guizhou Mong said they were forced out from Jiangxi 500+ years ago during a war.

XOVTSHOJ YOG NANJING

Mong Elders shared that they left TuamTshoj (Yellow River Basin and other northern regions) to XovTshoj (Nanjing of Eastern Yangtze River), and migrated into the Southwest.

UNFORGOTTEN TALES

Our people still remember that they left the Yellow River Basin (TuamTshoj/Da Chao) and Nanjing (XovTshoj/S. Song Chao) region into the Southwest. That was after the fall of [Mong] Yuan Dynasty.

Mong elders say that their ancestors left Shanxi and Jiangxi into Guizhou region. They entered Guizhou during Ming and Qing periods.

Our people who fled Shanxi into Qinhai/Gansu during the fall of Yuan Dynasty still know that they are Mong.

Many Mong were grouped into Hanzu during the 1950s, and some still remember that they are Emperor Kublai's people. Their vocabularies are still part of ours. See if you can recognize any.

The Mong Totem song says that Mong lost their country during the fall of Yuan. They now raise the flag totems (Ncej Ntxheb Ncej Ntxhoo) during Mong Mountain Festivals to teach their children not to forget that Mong used to be the ruling government. "Nanman and 'Ming Shuav' yog cov tua Mong cov txivyawg; yog cov tua Mong noob qais luaj taum dlaaj hlais tua tuab shi."
